⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolutely breathtaking experience! We waited 5years for our son to turn 10. A must-do for anyone in search of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Standing on the blue formations, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush rainforests, and the sea right in front, such unforgettable sight! Make sure to check the weather before booking your trip to avoid any cancellation. Since the activity involves some physical exertion, don’t overdress – bring the sunglasses, stay comfortable & enjoy the adventure.
Excellent place to visit with stunning scenery of ice, snow, rivers and towing mountains. We got the chance to heli hike and the walk around on top of the glacier exploring ice caves and seeing the seracs, crevases and ice mounds up close was amazing.
Where’s the Glacier? Walk up to the “look out” point and there is no view of the glacier. I get that it melts but maybe extend the path to be a little closer so there is actually a view of something…
Magic place to visit. We took a helicopter ride with Heli line and our pilot was awesome. The views are amazing the glacier landing is something I will always remember. If you're going to NZ this is a must visit place.
Incredible to see this glacier! It is about an hour and a half round trip walk to the base of the glacier. Along the way there are signs that show you dates when the glacier was still reaching closer so over the years this walk might get longer as climate change continues. On the back of the signs there is a call to action to act on climate change and spread the word as it is sad to see where the glacier used to be but is not anymore.
In general, a decent amount of parking here. Not too busy when we went in the morning. A couple of waterfalls on the way. You cross a bit of a creek from the glacier and some rocky terrain so definitely wear comfortable shoes. A must see!
It’s ashamed what climate change can do, and you’ll see evidence of this as you walk up to see the current glacier. The hike is nice... not too crazy. My buddy and I walked it in about 1.2 hours round trip from parking lot to glacier and back.
Wonderful experience to take a helicopter ride to get to the top of the glacier to see the fantastic views! Better stay here a night or two, just in case you cannot fly at the time booked, the weather keeps changing, it might look like a very sunny day on the ground but it might be too cloudy on the top for the helicopter to get you up there.
A walk is nice too, a few minutes drive from the township there is a big parking area, walking from there to the glacier you can see fantastic water falls on the way, you can also see what the global warming really can do, marks on the way to show where the glacier used to be years ago.
Fun and exciting. It was so lucky to have such great weather for see the beautiful view of the glacier. It looked dangerous but safe with the gears.
